Cell Phone News – Google Acquires Phonetic Arts to Improve Spoken Word

Google today announced that it has acquired Cambridge, U.K.-based Phonetic Arts for an undisclosed sum. Phonetic Arts makes software that helps computers to sound more human-like when translating and/or reading text for users. Google hopes the addition of Phonetic Arts will help it improve the speech recognition and interaction technologies it offers across its product range, including things such as Voice Search and Voice Actions.
