Cell Phone News – Google CEO Shows Off Unnamed Android Device with NFC

Speaking at an industry event, Google CEO Eric Schmidt showed off a previously unannounced handset from Samsung. Schmidt joked that it would not be called the Nexus 2, though he didn’t name it. When showing off some of the device’s capabilities, Schimdt noted that Gingerbread (codename for Android 2.3), would become available within the next couple of weeks. Schmidt didn’t indicate if he meant the SDK for Android 2.3, or the full operating system, or both. Schmidt also demonstrated how NFC (near-field communications) might work on an Android device for making mobile point-of-sale payments. He didn’t actually announce a new Nexus handset or reveal details of Android 2.3
