Cricket Wireless News – Boost to get the Motorola i1

In early March we heard a rumor that Boost Mobile might get the Motorola i1, an Android handset that runs on the iDEN network. Later in the month Sprint announced that it would release the i1, but it appeared ticketed for Nextel’s postpaid service. I ended the paragraph with, “There’s hope yet for an Android handset.” That hope has come through, as MobileCrunch has received marketing materials that indicate the i1’s imminent release on Boost.

That’s the confirmation. As you can see, it’s a Best Buy exclusive, something we’ve grown used to in the prepaid world. There also appears to be no BlackBerry-like surcharge, so this will cost you just $50 per month. The handset itself, of course, will probably cost multiple hundreds. As MobileCrunch notes, the BlackBerry 8330 through Boost costs $250, so there’s no reason to expect the i1 to cost any less.
